Hi there, You are invited to a Zoom webinar. Topic: 2022 FSA Prevent Child Abuse Conference Register in advance for this webinar: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_VRkJuT5kTH6mUatIgb1AOQ After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar. ---------- Webinar Speakers Terry Stigdon (Director, Indiana Department of Child Services @Indiana Department of Child Services) Terry Stigdon was appointed as director of the Indiana Department of Child Services in early 2018 as a part of Gov. Eric Holcomb’s sweeping reform of the state’s child welfare agency. In her first year in her new position, Stigdon implemented changes aimed at offering the best service to Hoosier children and families. As a result of her efforts to provide the right care to the right child at the right time, the state has seen a decrease in children in residential treatment and foster care. Prior to her appointment, she spent nearly 20 years at Riley Hospital for Children in the pediatric intensive care unit and the emergency medicine and trauma care. She is a Chicago native and holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing as well as a master’s degree in nursing leadership and management. Sandy Runkle (Director of Programs, Prevent Child Abuse Indiana @Prevent Child Abuse Indiana) Sandy is currently the Director of Programs at Prevent Child Abuse Indiana, a Division of The Villages, and has been since 2000. She has both teaching and training experience, as well as experience working with youth and working in the Child Welfare System. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Northern Arizona University, and her Master’s degree in Social Work from Marywood University. She has provided over 1,000 trainings in topics related to child abuse prevention and currently serves on the Children’s Policy and Law Initiative Board of Directors, the Children’s Justice Act Task Force, and the State Child Fatality Review Team. Victor Rivas Rivers (Actor, Child Survivor & Advocate ) A veteran star of more than two dozen films, Victor Rivers may be best known for such roles as Magic Mike, Blood In/Blood Out, and Eddie Murphy’s sidekick in The Distinguished Gentleman. Born in Cuba, Victor came with his family to this country at the age of two, enduring horrific child abuse and enduring domestic violence on the level of torture from his father. Thanks to the intervention of his community, he turned his life around dramatically – going from a hard-core gang member to class president and four letter athlete. Upon graduation from Florida State, he was drafted by the Miami Dolphins. With a successful career and family of his own, Victor decided to break the silence about his childhood. Though much has changed over the past thirty years, domestic violence remains one of the most under-reported crimes in America. Victor has chosen to lend his voice and his story to provide more direct support to programs. Charles Appelstein (MSW, President Appelstein Resources @Appelstein Resources) Described as “the best youth care trainer in America” by Robert Lieberman, former president of the American Association of Children’s Residential Centers, Charlie has devoted his entire adult career to helping children and youth struggling with emotional and behavioral challenges and those who guide them. An engaging, informative, and humorous speaker, Charlie is the author of three critically acclaimed books on youth care and the creator of two innovative CDs that help kids and parents make better choices and lead happier lives. Charlie’s strength-based approach delivers a message of hope and possibility to our most vulnerable youth and those who shape and influence their lives. Maurice Clarett (Football Champion, Business Leader and Entrepreneur ) University who saw his potential. He would be the first freshman running back to start, be named Big Ten Freshman of the Year, and set the rushing and touchdown season records. Clarett played an instrumental role in the team National Championship in 2002. After a series of personal setbacks, which interfered with his destined NFL career, Clarett stood at a crossroads in his life with two paths to choose from: either succumb to his challenges or overcome them. He chose the latter, compiling lessons he learned throughout his tumultuous journey of being dismissed from Ohio State and a 7 ½ year prison sentence. Maurice Clarett founded The Red Zone- a behavioral health agency dedicated to empowering youth and adults in need by providing comprehensive and therapeutic services after he noticed the need for mental health awareness and access in his community. Suzanne Crouch (Lt. Governor @State of Indiana) Proud to have been born in Evansville, Indiana, Suzanne previously served as Indiana’s State Auditor. Before becoming Auditor, she served as the State Representative for House District 78. She served as Vice Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee and on the Public Health Committee. Suzanne has been focused and committed to programs and services for people with disabilities. As a public servant, Suzanne has received the following awards and recognitions: Trine University Woman of Distinction, Indianapolis Business Journal Woman of Influence, Purdue University Distinguished Alumni, Arc of Indiana Public Policy Award and Indiana Association of Rehabilitation Facilities Legislator of the Year.
