90 days, 75 virtual events, and hundreds of new hires: How Compass Group quickly pivoted to virtual events (and might never look back)
If you’ve ever grabbed a bite to eat from a hospital cafe or a sports arena, there’s a pretty good chance you’ve met the friendly folks of Compass Group — one of the largest employers in the world with 280,000 employees in the United States and Canada.
Like many high-volume hourly employers, Compass Group historically relied on in-person job fairs to recruit hourly team members — often hiring several hundred at once, from a single event. But when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, that all changed.
And that’s exactly when Alexandra Miller, a Senior Talent Acquisition Manager at Compass Group, and her team kicked into transformation mode.
Partnering with Paradox to re-imagine hiring events entirely, Miller and her team honed in on a couple key goals: The experience needed to be mobile-first and frictionless for candidates; and the software needed to be intuitive and easy to use for hiring managers and event staff.
“For us, the goal was to not overthink or over-complicate the experience with a virtual booth or something that might feel intimidating for candidates,” Miller says. “We wanted every part of the process — from registering for a virtual event to receiving reminders leading up to it — to feel conversational and easy.”
