The stewardship of our seas and oceans is vital for Ireland as an island nation. The oceans are critical for stabilising climate and also for supporting the livelihoods of our coastal communities. The marine also presents growing opportunities in terms of renewable wind energy and marine protection.

In the coming weeks, EU countries will be required to establish long-term Maritime Spatial Plans in order to better protect the marine environment and encourage sustainable development on our seas and oceans. As the EU strives to achieve the ambitions of the European Green Deal, Maritime Spatial Planning will play a key role in providing constructive, collaborative and community-based solutions to managing the transformation.

In this webinar hosted by MEP Grace O'Sullivan, we hear from experts and policymakers on Maritime Spatial Planning, community engagement and marine protection. We also launch a new study on Best Practices in Maritime Spatial Planning by Dr. Cormac Walsh, and hear some of the lessons learned from marine planning experiences in Europe and beyond.
