The Dental Licensure Objective Structured Clinical Examination (DLOSCE)
For many years, dental boards across the US have relied on successful completion of single encounter, patient procedure examinations and manikin examinations as fulfillment of boards’ clinical licensure examination requirements. While usage of these examinations is widespread, accompanying that utilization are important questions concerning the undesirable situations and complications that can arise from the use of patients in the examination process, questions concerning the dearth of peer-reviewed validity evidence supporting use of these examinations, and questions concerning the ultimate value these examinations provide to the public. The Joint Commission on National Dental Examination’s (JCNDE’s) Dental Licensure Objective Structured Clinical Examination (DLOSCE) is a professionally developed and valid examination that has been designed from the ground up to help dental boards identify those who lack the clinical judgment and skills that are necessary for safe practice, thereby helping boards in their mission to protect the public. Please join the Department of Testing Services for a full update on this new and exciting examination program, and the research evidence that supports its use for licensure purposes in fulfillment of boards’ clinical examination requirement.
