Join Catholics in Washington, D.C. for a special prayer service for the Inauguration of Joe Biden as the 46th president of the United States, and Kamala Harris as vice president.

In this time of great tension in our nation, we look to our loving Creator for comfort and guidance. We remember the words of nonviolent peacemaker Dr. Martin Luther King, “True peace is not merely the absence of tension; it is the presence of justice." And we remember the teaching of Pope Paul VI who said, “If you want peace, work for justice.”

Inspired by their prophetic witness, we will gather online in prayer to ask God to touch the strained chords of our common life and strengthen our bonds. We will lament the recent pain and alarm fomented by the worst demons of our nation -- the hate, racism, anti-Semitism, white supremacy and white terror -- that have shaken us to our core. We will come together to pray for our brothers and sisters who cling to the false beliefs and the continuing lies about the veracity of this election. And we will commit to redouble our efforts to speak truth, to work together to address systemic racism, to be nonviolent peacemakers, and to restore trust and integrity to our democratic system and institutions.

The event will be simultaneously live streamed on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyZOn733BR3lsvwZaUY6fcA
