Community led housing is a great way to ensure local housing needs are met by putting local people in the driving seat," says the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC).
Community led housing also helps improve the design and construction quality of homes using modern methods of construction and gives more opportunity for smaller house builders to work on projects, growing local economies.
Meanwhile, the Community Land Trust Network estimates that one in six councils has policies to support community led housing, while one in three have given grants or loans for community led housing and at least 208 public sites have been sold or leased to community led housing groups.
