My passion for ESOL began when I volunteered as an English language supporter as a student at university. Since then I’ve taught and managed primary, secondary and adult ESOL classes. I’ve also worked for the Open College Network awarding body, specialising in ESOL qualifications. I worked at Sheffield Hallam University till 2017, first leading ESOL teacher education and then leading the PG Cert in higher education teaching https://www.natecla.org.uk. I left Hallam to concentrate on writing and the second edition of my book on creative teaching has just been published https://us.sagepub.com/en-us/nam/an-a-z-of-creative-teaching-in-higher education/book270785. I’m currently on the management group of NATECLA https://www.natecla.org.uk and am co chair of trustees for a Sheffield based ESOL charity called SAVTE http://savte.org.uk.

My introduction to EFL was in Peshawar where I taught English to Afghan Mujahideen. Currently I teach EAP and lead modules on course design, assessment, materials development, multimedia and independent learning for the MA English Language Teaching and supervise doctoral projects. I am also editor for Language Issues, a part peer-reviewed journal https://www.natecla.org.uk/content/566/Language-Issues-The-ESOL-journal. My current research interests include language learning materials, learner strategies and motivation for language learning, especially in alphabetically low-literate contexts. Multilingual resources are common to all these areas. You can see more about me here https://www.leedsbeckett.ac.uk/staff/dr-naeema-hann/
