For the 2022 Thanksgiving program, our guest speakers are Bishop William Gohl from the Lutheran Synod for Delaware/Maryland and Michael Orona, a member of the Northern Virginia Bahá’í Community in Alexandria, Virginia and the Apache Indian Nation.

The Reverend David C. Shank
Reverend
Rev. David C. Shank joined the Metro D.C. Synod as the Assistant to the Bishop for Generosity in the Spring of 2022. He is sharing his time with the Metro D.C. synod as he continues to work as Bishop Gohl’s Assistant to the Bishop for Generosity in the Delaware-Maryland Synod. Rev. Shank has over eight years’ experience in the Development and Fundraising profession in addition to over 10 years of congregational ministry experience. Originally serving in the Baltimore-Washington Conference of the United Methodist Church, he has served churches in and around Baltimore, and was a part-time member of the BWC Conference staff. He also served five years at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. as a member of their development team. He was ordained a minister of word and sacrament and became a member of the ELCA clergy roster in 2019.
MICHAEL A. ORONA
Michael Orona has worked for the U.S. Department of State for over 20 years where he has held an array of senior-level foreign policy advisory positions in various countries overseas and in Washington, DC. In his years of U.S. government service, Michael served at the White House as National Security Council Director for African Affairs where he oversaw the formulation and implementation of the U.S.- Africa Strategy and chaired White House senior-level meetings focused on implementation of whole-of-government lines of effort. In 2020, Mr. Orona was selected to serve as Senior Advisor for Strategic Global Policy in the State Department’s Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor where he led the Department’s involvement in key administration priorities, including the implementation of the President’s Executive Orders on Advancing Racial Equity and Promoting Gender Equity.
