Common Professional Liability Exposures and Risk Management
You are doing everything necessary to stay up-to-date with the clinical aspects of psychiatric care but sometimes it’s those things not directly related to treatment that can pose the greatest risks. In this program, we will take a “shallow dive” into topics about which questions are frequently posed to our Risk Management Consultation Service. We will discuss the most important risk management approaches you should know about each topic. Topics will include, documentation, informed consent, liability for the acts of others, suicide, supervision of nurse practitioners, telepsychiatry, and more.

Associate Director of Risk Manager @Professional Risk Management Services (PRMS)
Mr. Cash joined the PRMS Risk Management team after serving as an Assistant Public Defender for several years in the Mental Health Division of Maryland’s Public Defender Office. He provided trial consultation and representation in cases involving significant mental health issues and represented clients in civil commitment proceedings. Mr. Cash has been responsible for educating professionals on a variety of mental healthcare topics, including training defense attorneys to represent mentally-ill and developmentally disabled clients. Mr. Cash also worked as a paramedic for many years in the emergency services field and on the critical care transportation team of a major hospital.
