Alastair Murray is Chair of SCOT. He is also Clinical Director of Trauma & Orthopaedics in NHS Lanarkshire as well as Associate Postgraduate Dean for Surgery in the South-East of Scotland.
John Skinner
President @BOA
John Skinner is Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at RNOH Stanmore with a special interest in hip and knee replacement surgery. He is on the Editorial Board of the BJJ. John is the President of the BOA and has represented the Association at high level discussions with NHS England and other stakeholders on elective care.
Peter Bates
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon @Royal London Hospital
Mr Peter Bates is an orthopaedic trauma surgeon at the Royal London Hospital, the largest and busiest of the capital’s Major Trauma Centres. Mr Bates is the Clinical Lead for Orthopaedics and Head of Orthopaedic Trauma at this hospital in addition to being an honorary senior lecturer at the university (QMUL). Mr Bates’s subspecialty interest is in polytrauma (patients with multiple injuries) and the treatment of pelvic and acetabular fractures. As an honorary senior lecturer at QMUL and lead faculty for the ‘Orthopaedic Trauma Sciences’ MSc, Mr Bates is also faculty on the internationally renowned ‘Trauma Sciences’, providing online, distance learning to budding trauma specialists.
Sanjeev Patil
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon @NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde
Mr Sanjeev Patil is a full time Orthopaedic Consultant at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow and BMI Ross Hall Hospital, Glasgow. He completed his higher surgical training from Glasgow and undertook a fellowship in Adult Reconstruction at Vancouver General Hospital, Canada. He has also been a Travelling Fellow at the Mayo clinic, Rochester and Rush Hospital, Chicago. Mr Patil has undertaken further training in young adult hip surgery at San Diego, USA, and was a joint American-British Hip Society Travelling Fellow in 2009. He was also awarded the prestigious American British Canadian (ABC) Traveling Fellowship for the year 2014. Mr Patil has set up a tertiary ‘Young Adult Hip Service’ in Glasgow and is responsible for management of various complex hip conditions for patients across Scotland. In addition, he actively contributes to regional management of Periprosthetic fractures.
David Cairns
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon @NHS Grampian
Mr David Cairns is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon based in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Woodend hospital and Aberdeen Orthopaedic Network. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, trained on the West of Scotland Orthopaedic rotation and completed a Fellowship at Perth Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Centre, Western Australia. He is an honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Aberdeen. In 2017 he was appointed as an examiner for the FRCS Tr&Orth. He is also the Training Programme Director for the North of Scotland Orthopaedic Rotation. He specialises in upper limb sports injuries including arthroscopic shoulder surgery, rotator cuff repair, instability surgery and joint replacement. He also performs elbow and hand surgery with a specialist interest in elbow tendinopathy (tennis and golfer's elbow).
