Bringing the Lens on Outcomes Assessment into Focus
As educators we are used to evaluating information—papers, student questions, research articles. But viewing outcomes assessment through the lens of continuous quality improvement is remarkably difficult at first and we tend to make it so hard. DEAC accreditation standards, however; are quite clear: to be effective, outcomes assessment plans need to document, monitor and analyze student outcomes data to improve the student learning experience and inform institutional effectiveness.

This 1-hour webinar will address the fundamentals of outcomes assessment such as terminology, purpose, and processes and then offer suggestions for each development step along the way. Participants should come away with an understanding of outcomes assessment in general, how to design an outcomes assessment plan that meets their institutional needs as well as how to use the data collected not only for continuous improvement but to meet the requirements for DEAC accreditation.

Margareta Smith Knopik
Dr. Margareta Smith Knopik’s career in higher education spans the gamut of academic positions from student support to dean and school director including faculty positions in business and public administration at multiple types of institutions. She has also served as vice president and COO of a programmatic accreditation organization for business administration programs and as the assessment director for an online university. Dr. Knopik’s degrees were earned through the University of Nebraska system and she also earned a certificate in institutional effectiveness through SUNY in 2016. In addition to currently teaching and managing MSM and MBA courses and faculty in an online environment, Dr. Knopik provides guidance to institutions as they vision and/or refine outcomes assessment plans, develop institutional effectiveness plans designed to support strategic initiatives, and navigate accreditation processes.
