In this live Zoom presentation, Jennifer Mack-Watkins, David Rios Ferreira, and fayemi shakur discuss Mack-Watkins's exhibit, "Children of the Sun," on view at BMAC through June 13, 2021. Inspired in part by The Brownies' Book, a groundbreaking magazine for Black children co-edited by W.E.B. Du Bois in 1920-21, and by the life and legacy of Daisy Turner (1883-1988), a storyteller, poet, and activist from southern Vermont, "Children of the Sun" celebrates the beauty, importance, and complexity of positive representation of African American children. The exhibit was curated by David Rios Ferreira and includes the poem "just as lovely as the others" by fayemi shakur.
