His clinical and research work focus solely on Obesity and type 2 diabetes. He has contributed to the clinical management and research in Obesity over the last 12 years, through his work at a high throughput Obesity Centre. The specialist interests of his research Group are the mechanisms of action of interventions for obesity, focusing on pharmacotherapy, medical devices and obesity surgery. Pierre Blanc Pierre Blanc is vintage surgeon (senior surgeon for 20 years). He learned surgery in 1992 in Saint Etienne. He worked in general hospital for 10 years. General surgeon, aftherthat he started bariatric surgery and returned to saint Etienne to create a bariatric center. Specialization : bariatric, parietal surgery, laparoscopy, robotic and endoscopy David Kerrigan (MD (Distinction), FRCS, FRCSEd ) Immediate Past-President of the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society and Chair of Trustees of the newly formed BOMSS charity. After taking up an NHS consultant post in 1995, David went on to form Phoenix Health (a cross-specialty group providing NHS and private bariatric surgery throughout the UK). Phoenix Health is committed to surgical training via a Fellowship programme funded by the organisation and is proud to number many of the current generation of outstanding UK bariatric surgeons amongst our past-Fellows. Jean-Marc Chevallier (MD,PhD ) Doctor Jean-Marc, Jacques CHEVALLIER is Professor of surgery in the University of Paris,FRANCE, at the Hôpital Européen Georges Pompidou (HEGP) belonging to the Assistance Publique- Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP). Chief of the Metabolic and Obesity department in the Service de Chirurgie Générale, Digestive et Oncologique. He has been performing bariatric surgery for more than 30 years, was Co-founder and President of the SOFFCO-MM (Société Française et Francophone de Chirurgie de l'Obésité et des Maladies Métaboliques, French part of the IFSO). He was President of the 14th World Congress of IFSO in 2009 in Paris. He is Current President of the European Chapter of IFSO (IFSO-EC), 2022-24. Maurizio de Luca Maurizio De Luca is chief surgeon and head department of thoracic, abdominal and metabolic surgery at the Hospitals of Rovigo, Trecenta and Adria in Italy’s Veneto region. He specializes in minimally invasive techniques. Dr. De Luca has performed more than 7,000 bariatric-metabolic procedures, including many restoration, revision and conversion surgeries. He has authored and directed SICOB’s 2008 and 2016 Italian guidelines on bariatric and metabolic procedures and now is working as coordinator on the 2023 italian guidelines. Currently, he serves as treasurer of International Federation for Surgery of Obesity and Weight Related Diseases – European Chapter (IFSO-EC). Paulina Salminen Paulina Salminen, MD, PhD, FACS (Hon) is a Professor of Surgery at University of Turku and Turku University Hospital, Finland. She is an academic surgeon and a surgeon scientist combing high-quality clinical research with continuous clinical work. She is the principal investigator (PI) of the SLEEVEPASS trial (sleeve vs. bypass) and the PI of the APPAC study group with multiple randomized trials focusing on the treatment of uncomplicated acute appendicitis. She is the past president of the Finnish Surgical Society, the current president of Finnish Bariatric Surgery Society and the member of IFSO and IFSO European Chapter Executive Boards. She has been appointed as a member of European Surgical Association (ESA) in 2019 and in 2022 she received the honorary fellowship of the American College of Surgeons. Josep Vidal Josep Vidal is a Senior Consultant in Endocrinology at the Hospital Clínic of Barcelona. He is currently the Director of the Institute for Digestive and Metabolic Diseases at this Institution. He is full professor of the School of Medicine of the University of Barcelona, and leader of the Research Group in Diabetes, Lipids, and Obesity at the Institute August Pi i Sunyer for Biomedical Research. His maina area of research is in the field of the determinants of the Health benefits of bariatric Surgery.
