Clinical rotations are a necessary and vital role in producing quality, entry-level Sonographers. The future of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography profession is dependent upon it. While the Clinical Preceptor role is rewarding, it can have challenges. Those challenges are best dealt with when setting and communicating clear expectations and providing consistent and timely feedback. This talk will focus on the role of the Clinical Coordinator, Clinical Preceptor, and student and how to create a harmonious and productive experience that is a win/win for all involved.

Assistant Professor and Clinical Coordinator @Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences
Marie Ficociello, MA, RDCS, FASE, is an Assistant Professor and Clinical Coordinator for the Echocardiography Program at Massachussetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Boston and Worcester, Massachussetts. In addition, Marie is a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of Diagnostic Medical Sonography and the Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging Case Reports. Marie has 29 years of experience in both adult and pediatric echocardiography. Her initial training was at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. While there, she began teaching Cardiac Fellows. Along the way, she has worked with many students and Sonographers new to the field. Based on her role as Clinical Coordinator of the Echo Program since 2016, coupled with her years of teaching in the clinical environment, Marie has a deep first-hand appreciation for the hard work and dedication Clinical Preceptors put into developing quality Cardiac Sonographers.
