In this conversation, Joanna and Tim Smolko will give a brief overview of their book Atomic Tunes: The Cold War in American and British Popular Music. Joanna will also discuss women songwriters, such as Joan Baez, Malvina Reynolds and Peggy Seeger, who raised awareness and protested numerous issues related to the Cold War, the environmental effects of nuclear testing, the destructive nature of war, and the human cost of creating and storing nuclear weapons. The Nuclear Waste Scholar Series is funded through a Public Participation Grant from the Washington State Department of Ecology.
