The Wastewater Systems Effluent Regulations and Proposed Amendments
Environment and Climate Change Canada is proposing to amend the Wastewater Systems Effluent Regulations to allow eligible communities to receive a transitional authorization and to expand the temporary bypass authorizations to include planned releases from sewer systems.

Senior policy staff from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) will provide an overview of key elements of the regulations and discuss proposed amendments related to transitional authorizations and temporary bypass authorizations. There will also be updates on a proposal to develop a regulatory framework for wastewater systems in the North. This Northern Regulatory Framework would include wastewater systems north of the 54th parallel in Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec and the northern territories.
