Partners in Art (PIA) and C Magazine are proud to present a dialogue between artist Victoria Redsun and guest curator Mariana Muñoz Gomez, exploring the former’s Artist Project in C’s most recent issue, 149 “Community.” Redsun’s Seghąxole, my clan is a collage series that engages with personal relationships and expand them into connections that stretch across time and space. The artist positions themselves in relation to their family and simultaneously positions their family within broader communities—the Dënësųłinë́, cross-cultural networks, nonhuman kin, known ancestors, ancestors who lived long before the artist was born, and a community of Indigenous artists and activists. Muñoz Gomez’s accompanying text positions Seghąxole, my clan within the context of “grounded normativity” and within larger communities of Indigenous scholars and writers—referencing cross-cultural citation and “how generative it can be to learn with and from each other.”
In this talk, Redsun and Muñoz Gomez will reflect on their positions as artist and curator, and the meaning of community in their own respective practices as well in their work together for C Magazine.
The dialogue will be followed by a 20-minute Q&A.
