This spring and summer, the Delaplaine is partnering with Frederick Community College (FCC) and Frederick County Public Libraries to present the Hip Hop Lecture Series, an exploration of rap music within its social, cultural, and visual artistic contexts. The program aims to encourage more people to engage in dialog around the issues facing the community through the use of hip hop music and the visual arts. Shemica Sheppard, Associate Professor of English at FCC, will facilitate each session.
This session is a discussion focusing on how the prison system has shaped black America and how hip hop artists are fighting for criminal justice and prison reform through music and art. Featuring artworks by André LeRoy and Taurean Washington.
