Strangely Contaminated: The Loyalists of New Jersey
The American Revolution was a defining event in history. Stories of Washington's rag-tag army and the heroism of the Patriot militia dominated the history books for centuries. Yet, the American Revolution was much more than pitched battles between armies. Much like in the southern colonies, the war in New Jersey was mostly fought by partisan forces; neighbor against neighbor, father against son, brother against brother. Those that supported the Crown, called Loyalists, were very active in New Jersey and played an important role in the conflict. Andrew Dauphinee, Instruction and Outreach Librarian at the New Jersey State Library, will shed light on the forgotten New Jersey Loyalists, including their military accomplishments and failures.
