Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez invites constituents of New York's 14th Congressional District to join our COVID vaccine town hall, on Tuesday, February 9, at 6:30pm.

The Congresswoman will discuss the COVID-19 vaccine and local distribution efforts. She will be joined by Ruth Hassell-Thompson, Special Advisor to Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and Executive Committee Member of the NYS COVID-19 Vaccine Equity Taskforce, and Dave A. Chokshi, Commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. They will take questions from the audience.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez represents NY-14, which includes more than 650,000 people across parts of the Bronx and Queens. In her first term, the Congresswoman has personally attended over 20 town halls, and her office has opened over 1000 cases for her constituents. In D.C., the Congresswoman has co-sponsored 11 pieces of legislation that have ultimately become law, including one that increased funding for opioid abuse prevention. Through her tough questioning style in committee hearings, the Congresswoman has revealed corruption and abuse – even pressuring a pharmaceutical CEO into making a life-saving therapy more accessible and available. The Represenative’s first act in Congress was to introduce the Green New Deal resolution, which outlines the framework for a comprehensive and ambitious plan to combat climate change by creating millions of high-wage jobs in new green industries, transitioning our energy system and building new infrastructure. Dave A. Chokshi, MD, MSc (Commissioner @New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene) Dr. Chokshi most recently served as Chief Population Health Officer at NYC Health + Hospitals, where he built and grew an award-winning team dedicated to health system improvement, spanning innovative care models and analytics, primary care transformation, social determinants of health, community-based care management and chronic diseases and prevention. He has taken care of patients as a primary care physician at Bellevue Hospital since 2014. Dr. Chokshi’s prior work experience spans the public, private and nonprofit sectors, including positions with the New York City and State Departments of Health and the Louisiana Department of Health, before and after Hurricane Katrina. Dr. Chokshi served on the FEMA delegation to New York City after Hurricane Sandy in 2012. He also served as a White House Fellow and was the principal health advisor to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Ruth Hassell-Thompson (Special Advisor for Policy and Community Affairs @New York State Housing and Community Renewal) First elected to the New York State Senate in 2000, where she brought years of public service and community involvement to her post as the Senator of the 36th Senatorial District; representing parts of the Bronx and Westchester Counties. In 1993, Ms. Hassell-Thompson was elected to the Mount Vernon City Council, serving as Council President and Acting Mayor. Ms. Hassell-Thompson balanced her public responsibilities with other important community and business-related endeavors in the district. A retired nurse/counselor for Mount Vernon Hospital, specializing in pediatrics and helping women with substance abuse issues, she founded "The Gathering," a volunteer-staffed women's center in Mt. Vernon that provided counseling and support services. As a health educator, Ms. Hassell-Thompson worked with persons infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS. Ms. Hassell-Thompson is the proud mother of two daughters and the doting grandmother of two grandchildren.
