Countering Violent Extremism: A Peacebuilding Approach
Extremists movements – a global, centuries-old problem – can fuel instability and violent conflict as well as exacerbate differences in political, nationalist, or religious ideas. The work to prevent and counter violent extremism goes beyond policing or military engagement.

Leanne Erdberg Steadman from the United States Institute of Peace will join us to discuss the work everyday people and local organizations are doing to address this global issue by addressing the individual, social, and structural forces that can lead to violent extremism, and ways to effectively promote disengagement and reconciliation.

Before joining USIP as the director of countering violent extremism, Erdberg Steadman served on the National Security Council staff at the White House, and as a counterterrorism advisor at the U.S. Department of State, among other public and private sector positions.
