A HOT TOPIC Webinar.
It may not be on our radar, hovering as it does between state and local government, but what’s going on at the county level matters. The five-member Monmouth County Board of Commissioners (formerly Freeholders) oversees 388 miles of roads, 1,000 bridges, 15,000 acres of county parks, and the largest circulating library in the state. The county delivers emergency management, property tax assessment, Brookdale Community College, recycling/solid waste management facilities, vocational education, and more. It’s at the county level that we handle elections—including registration, voting machines, vote-by-mail ballots, vote-counting, and election certification. Its public health responsibilities include COVID testing and vaccine programs.
It serves us well to understand how county government affects our safety, health, quality of life, and pocketbook. Monmouth County Administrator Teri O’Connor joins us to share everything we didn’t know we needed to know about county government.
