A SPECIAL VALENTINE'S DAY TREAT!
Please join Jesse Holstein and the musical group, the 4 Masked Bandits, for a look under the hood of Haydn’s deeply expressive string quartet in F-minor op. 20 no. 5.
Jesse Holstein will offer an exploration of this transformative Haydn quartet followed by a live performance of the entire work.
When Franz Joseph Haydn’s set of string quartets, op. 20, were published in 1774, he forged a new pathway of expression for the medium. No longer were quartets a showpiece for solo violin with three backup musicians. Also, Haydn left behind the idea that chamber music was purely light entertainment for after a meal.
The 4 Masked Bandits are a string quartet based at Community MusicWorks, an organization whose mission is to create cohesive urban community through music education and performance that transforms the lives of children, families and musicians. The members are Jesse Holstein, Sarah Kim on violins, Jake Petrieniro on viola, and Kamyron Williams on cello.
