Lunch and Learn: Low Elevation Basic Glade Habitat
The Southern Blue Ridge is well known for its unique grassy balds, which SAHC has played a key role in conserving, but the Blue Ridge has other grassland communities that are key reservoirs of biodiversity. One type of grassland that is especially prominent in the Craggy Mountains is the “Low Elevation Basic Glade”. While there are several good examples on protected public and private lands in the region, many remain vulnerable to development and degradation by non-native invasive plants. Join us for this virtual Lunch & Learn and take a visual tour through some of these diverse grasslands with MountainTrue Biologist Josh Kelly and SAHC Stewardship Director Sarah Sheeran to discuss the ecology and importance of these unique communities.
