Following the successful civil society campaign to repeal the 8th Amendment outlawing abortion for women in Ireland, Irish women now have the legal right to access to abortion services in their own country. As in South Africa, the next challenge is to make that right a reality and that services are accessible and available to all.
As part of the European Film Festival in South Africa's series of special events, the Embassy of Ireland invites you to join an online discussion with South African counterparts on the right to choose.
There will be a short Q&A session after the discussion featuring the following leaders of the Irish Together for Yes Campaign and local South African specialists:
Gaopalelwe Phaleatsile - Abortion Support South Africa
Dr Tlaleng Mofokeng - Commission for Gender Equality
Orla O'Connor - Together for Yes Campaign/ National Women’s Council of Ireland
Siona Cahill - Together for Yes Campaign/ Union of Students in Ireland
