Join CVSC and a special guest on Thursday, August 13th to watch and discuss the short film "The Sacrifice Zone" with special guests Rep. Marvin Pendarvis (District 113, Charleston & Dorchester), Rep. Gilda Cobb-Hunter (District 66, Orangeburg), and Omar Muhammad, Exec. Director of LAMC.
In The Sacrifice Zone we're taken to the Ironbound district of Newark, New Jersey, one of the most toxic neighborhoods in the country. Maria Lopez, a Honduran-American resident there, is waging a war for environmental justice. This film follows Maria as she leads a group of warriors who are fighting to break the cycle of poor communities of color serving as dumping grounds, so the rest of us can live in comfortable ignorance.
