The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) and Faith’s Forum for London (FFL) would like to invite London’s inter-faith leaders to join an online webinar which will introduce the latest safety and security funding opportunity for physical security measures for places of worship through the Government’s Places of Worship Protective Security Funding Scheme.
Keeping Londoner’s safe is the Mayor’s top priority and this of course includes ensuring that Londoners can practise their faith freely, safely and securely.
The Mayor has lobbied hard for greater investment in this important funding stream and wants as many London places of worship to take advantage of this.
This application window was launched in mid-June 2020 and bids for funding need to be submitted by 9th August 2020. You can find more information about the fund here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/places-of-worship-security-funding-scheme
The webinar will be an opportunity for attendees to learn more about the fund from civil servants representing the Government’s Counter Extremism Unit (Home Office) and ask questions about the process. There will also be a short session on helpful tips and advice on writing strong applications from the Faiths Forum for London.
The scheme is open to places of worship and associated faith community centres (this is defined as a community centre run by a place of worship or near a place of worship that is faith based, and where regular worship takes place).
It is important to note that faith schools, educational institutions and NHS establishments (including chapels and prayer rooms) are not eligible to apply and that the Jewish community are also not eligible for funding from this scheme as a separate commitment was made to fund security measures at Jewish community sites through a grant administered by the Community Security Trust.
