In this event organized by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP), speakers will discuss how environmental preparedness, including mitigation and adaptation measures, can enable us to reach a carbon-neutral world by 2050 and reduce future disaster risks. Speakers also will consider how climate action now also will help us reach the Sustainable Development Goals and the goals of the Paris Agreement.
Across all issues, special attention will be paid to women, youth, older persons, indigenous persons and persons with disabilities.
The November dialogue will occur soon after the close of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) in Glasgow, UK, and speakers will draw from the outcome of that event, as well as from other current events and analysis including the recent UN Sustainable Transport Conference and UN DESA’s upcoming policy briefs on the future of our planet. In partnering on this initiative, UN DESA and UNDP hope to enhance the preparedness of the UN system to respond to multi-dimensional and systemic risks in today’s interconnected world.
