GRI ASEAN Reporters' Webinar on Why Tax Transparency Matters
GRI has released a new tax standard in 2019 - the first global reporting standard for tax transparency and is effective on reports after January 1, 2021, applicable to all types and sizes of organizations across industries. The GRI 207 Tax Standards intend to increase tax transparency by guiding organizations to report on their approach to tax, their governance, control, and risk management, and how they address stakeholder concerns related to the topic.

But why does Tax Transparency matter? As beautifully put by Oliver Wendell Holmes, "Taxes are the price we pay for a civilized society." In other words, taxes enable governments to invest in societal developments with long-term value. Hence, ensuring that everyone duly and equitably contributes to the economies of the countries in which they operate, not just reinforces an organization’s community impact, but is also vital to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Joining us are Eelco van der Enden, our incoming CEO, and Bastian Buck, our Chief of Standards. The session aims to help ASEAN reporters get to grips with the GRI Tax Standard - the world's first public reporting standard for #axtransparency, supporting organizations to disclose tax payments on a country-by-country basis, alongside tax strategy and governance.
