CNPS Webinar: Medical Assistance in Dying

There are now two sets of eligibility criteria and procedural safeguards: one for those whose natural death is reasonably foreseeable; and one for those whose natural death is not reasonably foreseeable.

Elaine Borg, B.N.Sc., R.N., LL.B., is a Nurse Legal Advisor with the Canadian Nurses Protective Society. CNPS is a national nursing organization, located in Ottawa, that provides professional liability protection and legal risk management education for over 140,000 eligible nurses in Canada. Elaine worked on the infant neurosurgery unit at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto prior to focusing on her main interest, obstetrics, which she practiced at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto and The Ottawa Civic Hospital. Her interest in ethical decision-making led to a position on a hospital clinical ethics committee, and from there, to a career in law after graduating from University of Ottawa’s law school. She was on the working group that drafted the National Disclosure Guidelines published by the Canadian Patient Safety Institute. She is on the Advisory Council for Queen's University's Masters in Healthcare Quality.
