The Kalamazoo River Natural Resource Trustees will present their Draft Restoration Plan and Environmental Assessment for public review. The Draft Restoration Plan lays out how the Trustees propose to implement over $12 million in the current phase of restoration work in the Kalamazoo River watershed. Funding for these efforts comes from a recent settlement with NCR Corporation and previous bankruptcy settlements with Millennium Holdings and Plainwell Paper, Inc. for their contributions to natural resource damages caused by PCB contamination of the Kalamazoo River environment. Additional settlement money will fund more projects over the next several years. The Kalamazoo River Natural Resource Trustees will be soliciting public review and comment on the Draft Restoration Plan until mid-May. The Trustees will review and consider public comments before making final decisions on implementing projects.
During this online meeting, Trustees will present details of the Draft Restoration Plan including proposed projects for implementation, explain how to submit comments as well as how to submit additional restoration ideas for future rounds of restoration funding, and answer questions. (Note: official comments will not be taken during this meeting). Anyone who is interested in Kalamazoo River restoration efforts is encouraged to attend.
