Differences in pain signalling and pain modulation in people with FASD are not well known or understood in the medical community. Therefore, sensory issues caused by prenatal alcohol are often clinically dismissed. They may be misconstrued as mental health problems, be labelled 'made up', or assumed to be linked to ulterior motives. This not only affects treatment but adds to the stigma already faced by people with FASD. This webinar will provide an overview of the biological underpinnings of pain, how pain presents, pain management, pain across the lifespan and pain as experienced by individuals with FASD. It is geared towards families, frontline workers, and health care professionals, but all are welcome.
