Ashley is a coastal biologist with over 15 years of experience in research, policy and planning. Prior to her time with Perennia, Ashley worked as a Coastal Coordinator with the Nova Scotia Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, and on various climate change adaptation and fisheries development projects internationally. Michelle Theriault (Director of Université Sainte-Anne’s Marine Research Center and satellite campus in Petit de Grat, NS @Université Sainte-Anne’s) Michelle Theriault is the Director of Université Sainte-Anne’s Marine Research Center and satellite campus in Petit de Grat, NS, and has over 25 years of experience in the lobster industry. She completed a BSc. in Marine Biology from Dalhousie University and an industry sponsored Masters of Science in Veterinary Medicine from UPEI. Michelle spent the first 10 years of her career as a lobster biologist and biology manager at a live lobster storage facility in Nova Scotia, as part of a team responsible for quality and inventory management for several millions of pounds of lobster per year. Michelle was instrumental in establishing the Marine Research Centre, a self-funded Centre, known for specialization with American Lobster. This Center conducts applied research and training to support economic growth and development within the fishing and aquaculture industries in Nova Scotia, including the development and delivery of the Nova Scotia Lobster Handling Courses. Giulia Pereira (Sea Farm Operations Faculty @Nova Scotia Community College) Giulia Pereira, originally from Brazil, she holds a bachelor’s degree in Aquaculture Engineering from the Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil, and a Business Administration diploma from NSCC. Over the course of her aquaculture journey, she has had experiences working with shellfish hatchery operations, shellfish farming, microalgae production, and land-based salmon farming. She is now faculty for the Sea Farm Operations program at NSCC and hopes to continue to contribute to the rural and coastal communities in Nova Scotia by educating people and helping students to gain the skills needed to work and thrive in the sea farming industry.
