The Fight for Tax Fairness in Maine and the Nation

Description
Maine faces big challenges — housing shortages, crumbling infrastructure, and underfunded public services. But too often, we’re told there’s no money to fix them, and while working families struggle, the richest people, and multinational corporations use tax loopholes to avoid paying their fair share. In 2025, Maine lawmakers must decide how to fund important services like schools, health care, and roads. Right now, the tax system helps the wealthy more than it helps regular people. That’s why we need a fairer system — one that makes sure everyone, including big businesses, contributes. At the same time, Congress will decide what to do about the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA). If extended, it would cost $400 billion a year and mostly benefit the wealthy, while taking money away from things we all need. Join MECEP and special guests from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities to learn how federal and state tax policies impact Maine — and what you can do to push for tax fairness and ensure a stronger, more equitable future for all Mainers. This webinar is open to everyone, including lawmakers, advocates, and anyone interested in learning about tax fairness. Media members, please note that the information shared is not for reporting. However, MECEP and CBPP are happy to answer any questions after the event.
