Repair and Redress: How an H.R.40-Style commission is Vital to the Build Anew Agenda

As part of our commitment to dismantling systemic racism and closing the racial wealth and income gap, NETWORK has been working to establish a federal reparations commission for over a year. While our work has focused on advancing H.R.40, the Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African Americans Act, there are two paths available to us for making repair a reality. President Biden also has the power to create an H.R.40-style commission by executive order.

This is a rare historic opportunity to advance a federal policy that seeks to address and rectify the sinful effects of slavery in the United States.
