In this session we will look at how to plan sequences of lessons to build a deep understanding of multiplication and division. We will consider the use of visual representations to build understanding and how they visuals can be gradually removed as children become fluent in calculation. We will consider a range of approaches for developing children's reasoning and where they fit within a sequence of lessons as well as showing how children can work at greater depth. We will also see how the same principles can be applied when planning sequences of lessons in other curriculum areas. This is the second in a series of two sessions.
