Drug-resistant TB: Current scenario and treatment challenges

In 2020 TB was the 13th leading cause of death globally and South East Asia accounted for 43% of all new cases, with almost 500,000 new cases of multi drug resistant TB (MDR-TB).
It becomes critical to diagnose and initiate the right treatment especially for drug resistant individuals as TB cannot be treated empirically. Rapid and comprehensive drug resistance testing is the need of the hour and TB-whole genome testing enables that. It is time to usher in a new era of genotypic drug resistance determination.
