A Complete Approach to Rainscreen Design

Description: This course presents the complete design approach to rainscreens and explains why rainscreens are an important topic for the building envelope and enclosures. This course enforces the use of control layers to maximize the use of a drained, backed ventilated rainscreen system performance for both new and existing buildings. Audience will learn and be able to identify different rainscreen technologies and how a complete approach is beneficial to a building’s performance, by ensuring compatibility among components and understand the relationship of control layers of the exterior wall assembly for health and safety of occupants. Lastly, the course will review this approach using real-world rainscreen systems.

Learning Objectives

1. Examine various rainscreen design and project examples, which illustrates the importance of a complete design approach.
2. Identify and describe the various rainscreen technologies and control layers of the building envelope and enclosures.
3. Explain the relationship of building performance with health and safety.
4. Explore the complete approach to rainscreen design and summarize the importance of compatibility among components within each layer.

He has an Architecture background with ten years in the industry and five within the rainscreen, exterior cladding, and manufacturing space. At Sto, Ryan oversees the technical testing, literature, and detailing of the StoVentec Rainscreen system and is actively involved in projects helping building owners, contractors and design professional carry out their vision with Sto innovative claddings.

Brock began his career in 1990 working for a dedicated Sto Distributor in the DC area. Since coming to Sto Corp in 1996 he has held various positions including Area Sales Rep, SE. Area Manager, N.E. Area manager, reStore Program Manager and Strategic Accounts. In Brock’s current role of Strategic accounts, he has been assigned to a small team within Sto Corp. whose job is to service the top Architectural Firms in the US. This support extends to helping these internationally recognized firms with Sto Products and solutions for their work both domestically and abroad. Brock has also held positions at the SWR Institute on their Board of Directors and Membership Committee chair. He is an active member of both SWRI and RCI.
