Post COVID nothing is going to be the same. Optometrists' laudable ambition to become ophthalmologists certainly won't be government funded and neither will they be able to afford time out of practice to pay for it. Independents will be lucky if they see as much as 50% of the patients they saw before COVID and practices, which are heavily dependent on GOC services, may struggle.
If you are to make sense of the post COVID world when the government will no longer be subsidising GOS services and fewer people feel they can afford to have their eyes tested, it's imperative that independent optometrists understand fully the needs of the people who do come.
Please join us on 23rd June at 5pm when Geraint Griffiths will debate that independent optometrists have the skills to liberate the NHS from the cost of preventable ocular and systemic disease. To help people to value and pay for our unique service which aims to prevent (not cure) ocular, systemic and psychological morbidity. Through an understanding of the binocular, occupational visual needs of 75% of the population who have nothing wrong with their eyes.
