HB Community Hall: A Discussion about Rise in Hate Crimes of Asian Americans
In honor of Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month (May), Huntington Beach Reads One Book (HBReads) presents a live virtual panel and Q&A to discuss recent issues affecting the Asian American Heritage community, both on a large and local level.

Our esteemed panel of community leaders includes:
Mayor Kim Carr, Mayor of Huntington Beach
Chief Julian Harvey, Interim Chief of Police for the Huntington Beach Police Department
Rev. Cindy Voorhees, Priest of St James Episcopal Church
Mr. Kenneth Inouye, Huntington Beach Resident

Moderator:
Mr. Don Han - Director of Operations, Orange County Human Relations (OCHRC)

In addition, panelists will discuss how the Huntington Beach community can mitigate and bring awareness to these issues. This event is inspired by our recent HB Reads book, They Called Us Enemy and our interview with its author, George Takei, where he talked about his experiences both in a Japanese American Internment camp and in his life after the camps.

Join us and learn how to become what George Takei termed an “active participant” in our community.
