Optimizing Safety Leadership Skills Through Peer Feedback
Safety, Health, and Environmental work always involves other people, whether by assessing risks, determining safe work practices, ensuring safe work conditions, or even observing and evaluating individual work and recommending changes if needed. These people may include the executive leadership team, the employee population, fellow Safety Professionals, third-party contractors and partners, or even the general public; in many cases, our interactions and relationships with others can positively or negatively impact our effectiveness as Safety Professionals and our abilities to influence safe work conditions and safe work practices. Knowing this, we went straight to the source to hear the voice of the customer and learn ways that we can improve as Safety Professionals. This presentation details feedback gathered from those working with Safety Professionals on varied operations and projects, how the Safety Professional handled (or didn’t handle) different challenges, and how we can avoid becoming ‘our own worst enemy’ and negatively affecting our credibility.
