Multiplying Good, the parent organization of the well-known Jefferson Awards, offers a service-learning and leadership development program for teens across the state called Students In Action (SIA). Through SIA young people conduct a community needs assessment and investigate the root causes of the issues they care about. But they can’t do this alone! Community-based organizations are critical partners in this work as Multiplying Good seeks to connect SC nonprofits, colleges and universities, faith groups, volunteer managers, and skilled + general volunteers with the youth participants in SIA. This session will help attendees understand the landscape of service-learning within the middle and high school population statewide and clearly outline the ways that potential partners can add real value to a teen’s leadership development journey.
Session attendees will leave with increased knowledge of the service-learning landscape in middle and high schools across the state. Attendees will also become more knowledgeable about how community-based organizations and volunteers can partner with teens to meet mutual goals and better serve communities in need across the state.
