The Fortress: The Great Siege of Przemysl
In the Autumn of 1914, all eyes on the Eastern Front were focused on the old, beleaguered Austro-Hungarian fortress of Przemysl. The siege that unfolded was the longest of the whole war. Professor Alexander Watson will discuss the decisive role the Fortress played in keeping the Habsburg Empire from defeat in 1914 and the story of how the Fortress's multiethnic, middle-aged and poorly equipped garrison managed to prevent a Russian invasion of Central Europe.
