“Maternal and Child Health: working as a community to improve outcomes”
You are invited to join us in this series as we discuss the startling history and outcomes of infant mortality in black and brown communities, the nuances of the health care system, and what we can do about it in our communities. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health, non-Hispanic African Americans have 2.3 times the infant mortality rate as non-Hispanic whites, and non-Hispanic African American infants are four times as likely to die from complications related to low birthweight as compared to non-Hispanic white infants. Amongst these disturbing realities, we must begin to ask ourselves new questions about systemic racism, contributing factors and practical solutions.
