Stabilizing placements through relationships: Supporting resource parents to overcome relationship barriers

During this webinar for child welfare professionals, presenters will discuss the impact of parenting dynamics and expectations on the relationships in families formed through adoption, foster care, or kinship care. This session will explore how to engage parents in examining their past and how their actions contribute to family dysfunction and increase the risk for placement disruption. The presenters—child welfare professionals with lived experience—will offer tips about providing services to the whole family in order to improve relationship dynamics and prevent unnecessary placement disruption..

Why should I attend this webinar?
Too often when we hear that a family is struggling, we focus our attention on the child, assuming the challenges stem solely from the child’s experiences with loss and trauma. While childhood loss and trauma have a significant effect on relationships, attachment, and bonding, this narrow focus prevents us from examining the impact of parenting styles and expectations on relationship formation. As a result, we miss opportunities to provide supports that address larger family issues. This webinar helps child welfare professionals make a mindset shift and offers tips and strategies to change the way we approach supporting families.
