OTS Webinar Series: After the Virus
E6. Rebuilding Tourism -Case Study on Ecuador

The rapid spread of the COVID-19 around the world has and will continue to have dramatic impacts on tourism and sustainability.

COVID-19 has struck Ecuador badly our country. Ecuador, with its biggest city, Guayaquil very badly affected. As a country, Ecuador is a small player in the tourism world map, yet tourism is one of our main sources of its income (3rd, behind oil and shrimp), and many thousands of livelihoods depend on it.

After the negative and alarmist way Latin America has been portrayed in the international press, we thought it would be interesting to explore the ideas of crisis, uncertainty, resilience, civil response, image recovery, government (or the lack of it), and economic impact in countries like Ecuador.
