India is a celebration for the senses. Upon arriving in Mumbai, visitors' eyes alight upon a vibrant melange of cinema billboards, posters, and advertisements. Over the last hundred years, hand-painted billboards and posters for Indian cinema evolved into a distinctive art form. Posters were hand-painted, some monumental sized, and then photographed and lithographed on newsprint for mounting upon city walls and billboards. Meet the creative geniuses of whom only a handful remain, and who, despite limited resources imparted a “larger than life” image to actors they had never met.
