Expanding Your German Research Beyond Ancestry and Family Search
All genealogy roads lead to FamilySearch and Ancestry. But sometimes it pays to take a less well traveled road when researching your German ancestors. We’ll discuss some of the powerful resources available for German researchers beyond the “standards,”—such as the online Meyers Gazetteer, Archion, Matricula, Compgen.de—reviewing each resource and how to navigate them even if you don’t speak German. Presented by Carolyn Schott.

Carolyn Schott is the author of “Visiting Your Ancestral Town,” a result of her passion for genealogy and for travel. After numerous visits to ancestral villages in Germany, Ukraine, Poland, Moldova, and Hungary, she wanted to share with others how to get the most out of a trip to explore one’s family roots.

By day, she is a grant and proposal writer for a large, international nonprofit organization. Her writing and editing projects include grant writing, technical documentation, travel essays, web page content, and historical articles. Her professional background includes experience in nonprofit, healthcare, telecommunications, and public utility organizations.
