We all jump to intuitive solution too quickly. “Sack them, recruit more, train them, pay them more"... are all classic examples of senior managers solutioneering ( a made up word but quite useful). These are solution descriptions not problem statements. As an HR or L&D Partner we need to be able to turn powerful clients around from solutioneering to sharing the real performance problems with us. If we cannot do this we are forever condemned to be value light “order takers”.
