Hi there, You are invited to a PDA webinar. When: Jun 1, 2022 06:30 PM Brisbane Topic: PDA Webinar “EmployABLE: Equal Skills = Equal Opportunity = Equal Pay” Register in advance for this webinar: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_lwVemhJcQQSUM030J3vmgg After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar. ---------- Webinar Speakers Sharon Boyce (PDA Vice-President & QLD Director ) Sharon is an educator and disability advocate. She wears many different hats and performs many different roles. She is the current chair of the Queensland Disability Advisory Council, a part-time lecturer at the University of Southern Queensland (USQ), and also a consultant in disability awareness, working across Queensland. She was the Queensland facilitator for the Leaders for Tomorrow program run across Australia in 2014 and is also a member of the Health Consumers Queensland Collaborative. Sharon was diagnosed with Juvenile Chronic Arthritis at 11, and has used an electric wheelchair since she was a young adult. Since then she has devoted her life and her considerable talents to promoting a true understanding of disability and diversity. Sharon is also an accomplished author and educational resource kit designer that educates school children and the general public on issues of social justice, disability and acceptance. Paul Williamson (PDA ACT Associate Director ) Paul Williamson joined PDA as an Associate Director in April 2021. He has a strong interest in furthering the employment opportunities for people with disability, having experienced some of the challenges firsthand – going from ‘fit & healthy’ to living with disability in a relatively short period. He has 20+ years experience working in senior positions in the Commonwealth Public Sector across several Department’s (including Employment, Finance, Industrial Relations & Attorney-General’s). He has worked on the development of key Commonwealth legislation, provided policy advice to Senior Officials & administered multi-million-dollar grant programs. Diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis in his late 20s, Paul has had multiple joint replacements & underwent brain surgery in his 30’s to correct an arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in the brain. Paul holds a Masters Degree from UNSW & is an Honorary Associate in the Centre for Disability Research and Policy at The University of Sydney. Tammy Milne (PDA TAS Associate Director ) Tammy Milne is PDA’s TAS Associate Director & lives in rural/regional North West Coast Tasmania. She worked at the Department of Education Tasmania for 32 years in many roles; teacher aide, Deaf interpreter, Intern Teacher & Librarian. She also ran a primary school library for over 12 years, before working as an interpreter in a high school for the 6 months prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and then taking early retirement. Tammy owns her disability, wearing it like a suit of armour after years of trying to fit into the abled world. With a physical disability that is very visible (Arthrogrophosis Multiplex Congenita), Tammy is very outspoken around disability & human rights. She believes that she still has much to learn. Sarah Styles (PDA QLD Associate Director ) Sarah is a hard of hearing musician, pianist, singer & composer of various styles. She has a private music studio where she teaches, runs workshops, hosts concerts and collaborates with other artists. She is currently learning Auslan and plans to write plays in Auslan and provide the Deaf community with access to theatre and Deaf actor jobs. Her passion is writing and performing shows for all, using the stage to break down segregation, bias & bigotry. This led to her creating a new music theatre format that allows people with varying levels of energy to join as cast members without harming their health - and regardless of body type, age, race, physical ability & gender. Mark Pietsch (PDA NSW Director ) Mark has 12 years experience in the Community Services sector. His life mission is to speak up where others have fallen silent. Mark’s experienced in writing policies & interpreting legislation. His own disability experiences & interest in challenging himself has smashed boxes that others try to place him in & encouraged an interest in understanding rules & using this knowledge to provide real solutions. Mark’s current role as a Support Coordinator is testament to this & led him to start his own company. Mark has a fondness for technology & design & teaches people about micro-enterprise, rapid prototyping & product iteration. Helping other PWD to start their own businesses brings him a lot of joy. He loves to help people to use their full potential. In spite of a movement disorder, & Mark admitting that he falls down a lot, he always picks himself up & keeps going. This is the quality he likes most about himself: perseverance & not giving up easily.
